Lead lists

11 articles · updated Apr 2026
What are lead lists?

Lead lists are curated lists of websites filtered by the technologies they use. For example, you can get a list of all sites running Shopify, HubSpot, or any other technology in our database — ready for outreach, enrichment, or analysis.

What information is included in the lists?

Each record includes the website hostname, the detected technologies, categories, detection confidence, HTTPS status, and the date it was last seen. Business and Enterprise plans may include additional enrichment fields such as country, traffic estimates, and social profiles.

What segmentation options are available?

You can filter lead lists by technology, technology category, country, HTTPS status, and traffic tier. Business and Enterprise plans support filtering by multiple technologies simultaneously (e.g. sites using both Shopify and Klaviyo).

A technology I'm looking for is not in the list, can it be added?

We're continuously expanding our technology database. If a technology you need isn't available, you can request it via the browser extension's "Suggest a technology" feature or by contacting our support team. Enterprise customers can request prioritised additions.

How do you determine a website's country?

Country is determined using a combination of signals including the top-level domain (e.g. .de, .fr), server IP geolocation, hreflang tags, and language metadata found in the page source.

How is the information being collected?

Data is collected via our browser extension, which detects technologies on pages as users browse the web, and via our proprietary web crawler. All data is collected from publicly accessible web pages. No private or authenticated content is accessed.

Was this helpful?
How accurate is the data?

Detection accuracy varies by technology. Technologies with strong fingerprints (unique script names, meta tags, headers) are detected with very high confidence. Each detection includes a confidence score so you can filter by certainty level.

Was this helpful?
How fresh is the data?

Data freshness depends on visit frequency for each website. High-traffic websites are refreshed more frequently — often within days. Less-visited sites may have data that is a few weeks old. The "last seen" date on each record tells you exactly when the detection occurred.

How do you determine website traffic?

Traffic estimates are derived from a combination of publicly available signals including domain age, indexed page count, and aggregated browsing data. These are estimates and should be treated as indicative rather than precise figures.

Can I resell the data or embed it in my product?

Reselling or embedding StackDetect data in third-party products requires an Enterprise plan with sublicensing rights. Standard plans are for internal use only. Please contact our sales team to discuss OEM or reseller arrangements.

We offer a 7-day money-back guarantee on first-time purchases of paid plans. Refunds are not available after the first 7 days or for renewals. Contact support within 7 days of your purchase to request a refund.

APIs

7 articles · updated Apr 2026
What can I do with the StackDetect API?

The StackDetect API lets you programmatically look up the technologies used by any website, enrich CRM records with technographic data, and query our database to find sites using specific technologies — all from your own application or workflow.

Was this helpful?
How do I get an API key?

API keys are available on Business and Enterprise plans. Once subscribed, you can generate and manage your API keys from your account dashboard under Settings → API.

Was this helpful?
What are API credits and how are they consumed?

Each API call consumes one or more credits depending on the endpoint. A single technology lookup uses 1 credit. Bulk lookups and enrichment endpoints may use additional credits per record. Your current balance and usage are visible in your account dashboard.

Was this helpful?
Do API credits expire?

Credits included with your monthly plan expire after 60 days from the date they are issued. Purchased top-up credits do not expire and roll over indefinitely.

Was this helpful?
What rate limits apply to the API?

Rate limits depend on your plan. Business plans support up to 10 requests per second. Enterprise plans have higher or custom limits. Contact sales to discuss dedicated throughput options.

Was this helpful?
Is there an API sandbox or test environment?

Yes. Business and Enterprise accounts have access to a sandbox environment that returns sample data without consuming production credits. See the API documentation for sandbox base URL and test keys.

Where can I find the API documentation?

Full API reference documentation, including endpoint descriptions, request/response schemas, and code examples, is available at StackDetect Documentation.

Browser extension

6 articles · updated Apr 2026
How does the extension work?

The StackDetect browser extension analyses the pages you visit in real-time — inspecting HTML, JavaScript, HTTP headers, cookies, and DNS records — to identify the technologies in use. Detections are stored locally and synced to your account when you're signed in.

Was this helpful?
What's the 'more info' tab about?

The 'More info' tab shows additional context about each detected technology — including a description, version (when detectable), the category it belongs to, and a link to its detail page on StackDetect.

Was this helpful?
Can I suggest a technology to be added?

Yes. Use the "Suggest a technology" option in the extension popup. Our team reviews all suggestions and adds technologies that meet our detection criteria. You'll be notified when your suggestion goes live.

Was this helpful?
Where can I report a bug?

Bug reports can be submitted via the extension popup → Settings → Report a bug, or directly to our support team via the contact page. Please include the URL where the issue occurred and your browser version.

Was this helpful?
Can I hide technologies on my website from being detected?

StackDetect only detects technologies that leave publicly visible fingerprints. To reduce detectability, minimise exposed version numbers, obfuscate script names, and remove unnecessary HTTP headers — standard security hardening practices.

Was this helpful?
What information do you collect?

The extension collects the hostname of pages you visit and the technologies detected on them. It does not collect page content, form data, passwords, or personally identifiable information. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Recommendations

How do I find a site's tech stack?

Use the Technology Lookup page — enter any hostname to instantly see the full tech stack detected for that site. For sites not yet in your database, install the browser extension and visit the site to trigger a detection.

How do I find websites using Shopify?

Go to Technologies, search for "Shopify", and open its detail page. From there you can browse all detected Shopify sites or download a CSV export. Use Lead Lists for a targeted, filterable export with additional segmentation.

What's a good BuiltWith alternative?

StackDetect is a strong alternative to BuiltWith for teams that want real-time technology detection via browser extension, a searchable database of tracked sites, lead list exports by technology, and a REST API — all at a more accessible price point.

Was this helpful?
Should I use the browser extension or the API?

Use the browser extension for day-to-day prospecting as you browse — it silently builds your database with every page you visit. Use the API for automated enrichment workflows, CRM integrations, or when you need to look up technologies at scale without manual browsing.
